For NEW Substance Abuse Prevention

PEER LEADER NETWORK
PURPOSE:
The newly-created Dorchester Youth Peer Leader Network (PLN) offers leadership trainings and encourages youth decision making in building unity between Dorchester youth organizations around substance abuse prevention. The PLN provides a space to share resources and partner in community event planning. Like a tree trunk, the PLN will blossom as it branches out to represent the cultural and geographic diversity of Dorchester. Together, we can really make things happen!
Job Responsibilities:
The Peer Coordinator will be intricately involved in spearheading PLN organizing. He/She will:
- Recruit peers from Dorchester youth programs
- Develop and disseminate outreach tools, such as flyers
- Coordinate event planning and advocacy work
- Facilitate meetings, co-lead trainings, and give presentations
- Write press releases and develop other types of media materials
Qualifications:
The Peer Coordinator will:
- Be a youth committed to working 10 hours/week for at least one year
- Have participated in a Dorchester youth group
- Be passionate and committed to youth leadership and substance abuse prevention
- Be outgoing and open to meeting new people
- Have experience facilitating a group of their peers
- Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills
- Be organized and proficient in Microsoft Word, and preferably Excel and Power Point
Salary:
$8/hour, 10 hours/week
