FAX: (617) 635-4483  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEOctober 5, 2007                                                                                                             Contact: Geraldine Cuddyer617-635-4634  OCTOBER 17 IS THE LAST DAY TO REGISTER TO VOTE IN THE CITY-WIDE MUNICIPAL ELECTION  Boston, MA – The Boston Election Department would like to remind all residents that October 17 is the last day to register to vote in order to participate in the Municipal Election on November 6, 2007. On November 6, Boston voters will elect four (4) At-Large City Councillors, from a field of nine (9) candidates.  There are also District contests in City Council Districts 3, 4, 7, and 9.  Incumbent Councillors in Districts 1, 2, 5, 6, and 8 are unopposed for re-election.  For a list of candidates, visit the Boston Election Department’s website: www.cityofboston.gov/elections.   Voters who have moved within the past year should update their voting information by re-registering from their new addresses.  The Election Department Office, in Room 241 at Boston City Hall, will be open until 8PM on October 17 to accommodate last-minute registrants.   Mail-in registration forms can be picked up at many libraries, health centers, and community centers, or may be downloaded from the above website.  Registration forms sent by mail must be postmarked by October 17 in order to be processed for the November 6 Municipal Election.  Please make sure to send all registrations to: Boston Election Department, Room 241, Boston City Hall, Boston, MA 02201.   Voters who want to check their voting status online are reminded that they can visit the Boston Election Department’s website and click on the link “Voter Registration Search.”  By entering a name and birth date, voters can check on their voting status, current registered address, and the location of their polling place.  This service is also available in Spanish and Chinese by clicking on the appropriate language selection link.  Voters with questions regarding their voting status or polling location should call the Boston Election Department at 617-635-3767.
