You don’t need any previous tutoring experience to participate—just a
willingness to work with students and help them reach for their highest
potential!

Our volunteers work with one student during the school day
and in some after school and Saturday morning programs for one hour (or more)
each week. Opportunities are available in all grades\, K-12\, in the areas of
math and literacy. During the application process\, we provide training in
mentoring and tutoring\, as well as a personal interview and a reference check
to ensure a successful experience.

The Boston Public Library will host the Digital Bookmobile\,
an immersive download experience inside a 74-foot\, high-tech tractor-trailer\,
on Wednesday\, Aug. 27 from 8 a.m.
to 3 p.m. at City Hall
Plaza.
Readers of all ages are invited to engage digital
downloading through interactive demonstrations and experience the BPL’s audiobook\,
eBook\, music\, and video download service at this free event. Library card
holders can also check out and download digital
titles any time\, anywhere by visiting http\://overdrive.bpl.org.
The Digital Bookmobile is housed
inside an 18-wheel tractor-trailer. This 74-foot community outreach vehicle is
a high-tech update of the traditional bookmobile that has served communities
for decades. The vehicle is equipped with broadband Internet-connected PCs\,
high definition monitors\, premium sound systems\, and a variety of portable
media players\, all of which help visitors explore The Boston Public Library’s
download service. Interactive learning stations give visitors an opportunity to
search the digital media collection\, use supported mobile devices\, and download
and enjoy eBooks\, audiobooks\, music\, and video from the library.
Patrons can take advantage of the
download service 24/7 when they visit the library’s website. From there\, they
can browse the growing collection of best-selling\, new release\, and classic
titles\, and check out a digital title with a valid library card.
Once downloaded\, digital titles can be
enjoyed on a computer or transferred to supported mobile devices. Many audio
titles can also be burned to audio CD. At the end of the 21-day lending period\,
titles will automatically expire and are returned to the digital collection.
There are never late fees or damaged items.
The Digital Bookmobile is a service of Boston Public
Library and is operated by OverDrive\, Inc. To check out and download digital
books and more\, visit http\://overdrive.bpl.org.
For more than 150 years\, the Boston
Public Library has pioneered public library service in America with
revolutionary ideas and famous firsts. Established in 1848\, the BPL was the
first publicly supported municipal library in America\, the first public library

I'm sending this email with some bad
news. Our son-in-law Jake Severino was diagnosed in April with a
Cancerous Brain Tumor. At that time they gave him 6 to 12 months
to live. At the end of July they changed this time frame to 3
months as the cancer has spread to his spine. He has been married
for a year and a half to our daughter Kelli. They have no life
insurance and are having a hard time keeping with all the expenses his
illness has brought on. We are having a fundraiser for him on\:

During the summer of 2007\, BostonPublic Schoolfamilies
were surveyed to determine their needs and interests. A significant
number of families identified a need for more information about a broad
range of afterschool and out-of-school time opportunities for their
children and youth. In response\, families from across the entire
BostonPublicSchool districtwill be invited to a Resource Fair on
September 23rd that will include\:
Øvendors representing a range of programs
including youth development\, tutoring\, enrichment\, arts\, sports\, and
recreation programs\; and
Øinformation about Bostonavigator\, a new citywide database of youth resources.
If you currently have openings for additional
participants and would like to have a table at the Resource Fair\,
please complete the attached application. Spaces will be assigned on a
first-come\, first-served basis. Approximately sixty vendors are
anticipated.
