Are you looking for something to break up your work day that
will allow you to give back to your community? The 2008-2009 academic school
year will be here soon and Boston Partners in Education is looking for
volunteers to tutor and mentor Boston
Public School students.
You don’t need any previous tutoring experience to participate—just a
willingness to work with students and help them reach for their highest
potential!

Our volunteers work with one student during the school day
and in some after school and Saturday morning programs for one hour (or more)
each week. Opportunities are available in all grades, K-12, in the areas of
math and literacy. During the application process, we provide training in
mentoring and tutoring, as well as a personal interview and a reference check
to ensure a successful experience.

The Washington Street/Talbot Avenue Safe Neighborhood Initiative holds a Community-Wide Meeting on the second Wednesday of each month at the Perkins Community Center, 155 Talbot Ave., Dorchester, MA. This initiative is led by a steering committee composed of residents, businesses, non-profit organizations and government agencies in the area bordered by Washington St. (eastern border), Blue Hill Ave. (western border), Armandine St. (southern border) and Columbia Rd. (northern border). Monthly meetings are held to coordinate efforts and develop strategies for reducing violent crime and improving quality of life in this area. Mini-grants are also awarded every year to organizations that are doing coordinated community policing, intervention, prevention and revitalization work within the designated area. Horizons for Homeless Children Volunteer Training

Did you know: at least 1 out of every 24 Massachusetts children is homeless at any given time? An even higher proportion of Massachusetts children experience homelessness over the course of a year, for a total of around 100,000 homeless children and youth in the Bay State.
Horizons for Homeless Children is immediately seeking volunteers to interact and play with children living in 54 family shelters, teen parenting, and domestic violence programs in Greater Boston. A commitment of 2 hours a week for 6 months is required. We offer daytime and evening shifts, so there is likely to be one that fits your schedule. It is a rewarding and fun experience for everyone involved.
